UTC Power names Stewart as VP-Transportation

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn., March 21, 2007 – UTC Power, a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company, today announced the appointment of Kenneth C. Stewart to the newly created position of Vice President, Transportation, reporting to UTC Power President Jan van Dokkum.

Stewart will oversee UTC Power’s automotive, bus and fleet, space and defense businesses.

“With a rich background in the automotive industry, including more than 25 years at General Motors, Ken is well qualified to lead the growth of our transportation business,” van Dokkum said.

UTC Power has worked with most of the world’s major automobile manufacturers – including Hyundai, Nissan and BMW – as well as the U.S. Department of Energy, on fuel cell development and demonstration programs for automobiles.

In addition, UTC Power has supplied fuel cell bus power plants since 1998 for transit programs in Washington, D.C., California, Spain and Italy, and new fuel cell buses soon will debut in Belgium and Hartford, Connecticut, with the company’s PureMotion™ fuel cell systems. The fuel economy of transit buses equipped with this UTC Power technology is two times better than a diesel-powered bus, and there are zero emissions. These buses also are known for their quiet operation.

From 1999 to 2005, Stewart led strategic business development and implemented product, marketing and sales operations for a variety of GM’s advanced technology vehicle programs. His efforts included GM’s EV1 electric car, alternative fuel vehicle commercial fleets and all-new fuel cell and hybrid demonstration cars.

More recently, Stewart was Director, Business Development, for American Specialty Cars, a design and engineering resource for automakers and a manufacturer of low-volume systems and specialty vehicles.

Stewart earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University and an MBA from Duke University.

He is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and has been a guest lecturer on a variety of automotive topics at Wayne State University, Michigan State University and Duke University.

United Technologies Corp., based in Hartford, Conn., provides high-technology products and services to the building and aerospace industries.
