Clinton Climate Initiative names UTC Power as a supplier partner

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn., Nov. 2, 2007 – Former President Bill Clinton announced yesterday that UTC Power, a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company, will be an official supplier partner for the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI).

CCI is a project of the Clinton Foundation that works to substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions worldwide and make energy-saving products and services easier, cheaper and faster to deploy.

Clinton made the announcement as part of the U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting in Seattle. He said that in response to growing demand, CCI will extend its programs and purchasing consortium to all 1,100 cities in the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

“Climate change is a global issue that we must address immediately if we are to reverse its catastrophic effects,” Clinton said. “I am pleased that the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Wal-Mart and many businesses are working with my foundation to supply energy-efficient and clean energy products . . . Together, I hope that we can have a measurable impact on greenhouse gas emissions around the world.”

UTC Power is a world leader in developing environmentally advanced power systems, including fuel cells for transportation and on-site power.

UTC Power Vice President-Transportation Ken Stewart said, “We are very pleased to be recognized as a supplier partner for this new Clinton Climate Initiative transportation program and see it helping bring fuel cell technology to commercialization. We have been leaders in fuel cell technology for almost 50 years, beginning with the space program. We welcome today’s announcement as a sign of growing market traction for commercial transportation and other applications.”

Since 1998, UTC Power has provided fuel cell power plants for bus fleet transportation. Benefits include zero harmful tailpipe emissions, smooth and quiet operation and fuel efficiency nearly double that of standard diesel-powered buses. Use of fuel cell-powered buses immediately reduces street-level emissions, which are a growing concern in the world’s congested cities.

“Transit buses with UTC Power fuel cell systems are already in commercial service in the United States and Europe and we hope to double the fleet in the near term,” Stewart said.

UTC Power, based in South Windsor, Conn., is a world leader in developing and producing fuel cells for on-site power, transportation, space and defense applications, as well as a leader in innovative renewable energy solutions and combined cooling, heating and power solutions for the distributed energy market.

About the Clinton Climate Initiative

Building on his long-term commitment to preserving the environment, President Clinton launched the Clinton Foundation’s Climate Initiative in August 2006 with the mission of applying the Foundation’s business-oriented approach to the fight against climate change in practical, measurable, and significant ways. In its first phase, CCI is working with the C40 Large Cities Climate Leadership Group to accelerate efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. CCI team members have visited nearly all of these cities and are working with them to define projects and take action.
